Let Us Eat Lettuce: DIY Gardening on the Cheap!

A topnotch WordPress.com site

Alpha testing? We’re still in 2012’s Omega (but, with VIDEO)!

Seems like blog entries are coming on days that are multiples of three…not a bad idea for a gardening project, since some lovely plants (for example the genus Lilium) operate around just that number. It is tricky to grow bulbs like that indoors (though not impossible), and it won’t be our first priority here.

Instead, drumroll please…here we have our FIRST VIDEO INSTALLMENT of Let Us Eat Lettuce!  Astute observers will note that there is a grower’s gizmo in the background, namely the grow light hanging from the ceiling.  Rest assured that we’ll only be using the light from the south-facing window that you’ll see on the left side of the screen for our projects.  That avocado tree lives next to the west-facing window that appears in back of me, and has grown just fine without artificial  light.  We do use the grow light for our garden starts, and I will introduce you to those, too, as they develop this winter and spring, but bear in mind, we decided to buy it after gardening for three or four years, and as we decided to expand our operation.  Again, our goal here for this project is to get you growing some satisfying crops without having to come to that–yet.  If I can manage to grow something in our characteristically disorganized and dishevelled state (don’t expect the background to change too much!),  you can, too!

Day One of a New Project

Greetings! This site will be home to a developing series of what I hope are useful instructions and suggestions, in video and written form, for getting simple, home-based gardening projects started WITHOUT having to buy a lot of fancy equipment or put yourself under a lot of pressure! While not every plant can be grown or started indoors without some gear or help, there is a lot you can do with re-used and recycled materials, which can add to your diet, your knowledge about plants and the environment, and your good times. More soon!
